Vuvi mask originate from Gabon near the border with the DRC Democratic Republic of Congo. White face masks are a classic of the peoples of Gabon. This one comes from an area of mixed influences and styles located among the Vuvi and Mitsogho people. But the present mask is more related to the Vuvi than the Mitsogho because of certain features such as the elongated form of the face and details on facial features including the large arched eyebrows going from the root of the nose to the edges. It does not have a flat white surface but has eyes and eyebrows like those of Vuvi. It has a brown band enclosing the lower lip to chin and the cap treated in a manner close Vuvi. A powerful and authentic kran mask made of hard wood, with brown patina and pigments. An unusually old mask of the Dan-Kran, depicting a monkey (chimpanzee or guenon). The mask displays characteristic forms: a short, bulging forehead, deep-set, triangular eyes, protruding, triangular cheeks and a large, open mouth. At the top of the head is a (typical) iron pin. The present Kagle maskâ is an especially old type, as suggested by the rectangular (rather than round) shape of the fastening eyelets for the mask costume along the edge of the mask, as well as by its tongue, which is made of red dyed terracotta.
