Grebo Mask Protuding Eyes- Ivory Coast
This Grebo Mask with dense wood, protuding tubular eyes, in varying numbers. and exagerated facial features, belongs to the Kru group, a small population of the western coast of the Ivory Coast, and their neighbours from eastern Liberia). The Grebo ethnic group in Ivory Coast uses this mask to the needs of “fetish” (sacrifices). Worn vertically, Kru masks were fitted below a huge headdress which consisted of an arc-shaped structure made of vegetable fibres, covered with cloth and trimmed by a stiff fringe of palm-leafed fibres and long waving feathers, creating awe-inspiring effects.
Made of 100% carved wood, patina.
