Product Description

Dogon Couple Figure With Raised Arms – Mali
This Dogon figurative art depicts a couple with an abstract naturalistic stance, and arms raised towards the sky. The sculpture originates from the Dogon tribe of Mali. The gesture of raised arms is usually representing various aspects of Nommoâs role in organizing and purifying the universe and his relationship with Amma, the Creator, indicating communication between the earth and heaven. It has been also suggested that it may represent an appeal for rain. The artist has carefully rendered the figureâs facial expression and anatomical detail. The figure may be intended to be hermaphrodite and therefore a Nommo â it might be associated with the Tellem people, local predecessors to the Dogon.
Made of 100% wood.
Model is W 54 â H 22 and weight 2.8 kg
