Punu-Lumbo Mask – Gabon
A Tsogo mask is a tribal mask native to the Ogooué River basin in Gabon, especially in the south in Ngounié Province. Tsogo masks are controlled by the Bwiti men’s initiation society. The masks represent supernatural beings, each type has its own name and symbolism. They are used in initiation ceremonies and share the kaolin white surface with their Gabon neighbors, the Fang, Punu and Kwele.The masks are extremely valuable to collectors of African art.
Made of 100% wood, kaolin, pigments.
