Hunting Malinke Tunic – Mali
This fine warrior or hunter’s tunic decorated with amulets of all kind, shells and mirrors comes from the Bamana people of Mali. These garments were worn by Dogon or Bamana men for protection in the forest, from both wild animals and dangerous spirits. A successful hunter must not only be master of the forest and wild animals, but must also have the spiritual power necessary to negotiate the dangerous supernatural realm. Such ritual tunics were also found among other Mande groups in Mali and among the Akan/Asante peoples of Ghana.
Made of Cloth, leather, shells, metal, glass.
Model is W 170 â H 201 and weight 110 kg.
